SUNNYVALE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—May 15, 2006— Synplicity, Inc. (Nasdaq:SYNP), a leading supplier of software for the design and verification of semiconductors, today announced that the latest version of its Synplify Pro(R) synthesis software provides full support for the industry's first 65-nanometer (nm) Virtex(TM)-5 FPGA family introduced separately today by Xilinx, Inc. Synplicity's Synplify Pro software provides timing-driven synthesis that enables designers to take full advantage of the speed, capacity and versatility of the new highly-integrated Xilinx Virtex-5 LX Platform in a fast and efficient manner. Early access software is available now from Synplicity and Xilinx with general availability in June 2006.

Algorithmic changes have been made to the Synplify Pro software, allowing users to maximize the performance and logic density of Virtex-5 LX devices, which offer up to 330,000 logic cells, 10-Mb of on-chip memory, 1,200 I/Os and a host of hardened intellectual property blocks all tuned to 550 MHz. The Synplify Pro algorithms have been tuned for the unique Virtex-5 architecture, including efficient utilization of the new ExpressFabric(TM) technology with the look-up table (LUT) structure with six independent inputs to reduce levels of logic. The Synplify Pro tool also now contains enhanced capability for automatically inferring optimal memory and digital signal processing (DSP) functionality to maximize the new high performance memory architecture and DSP48E block with wider multipliers embedded in Virtex-5 LX FPGAs.

"We have worked closely with Xilinx over the past year to ensure optimal support of the Synplify Pro tool for the new Virtex-5 devices," stated John Gallagher, Director Outbound Marketing at Synplicity. "These devices will offer unprecedented levels of speed and capacity, making them an attractive solution for a broader range of applications. We believe that the enhanced optimizations built into the Synplify Pro software, along with its timing-driven approach to synthesis, will allow designers to push the performance of their complex designs while remaining comfortably within their time-to-market goals."

"Our new Virtex-5 FPGA family delivers compelling gains in performance and density through innovations in process technology, device architecture and product development methodology -- with speeds on average 30 percent higher and 65 percent increased capacity over previous generation FPGAs," said Steve Lass, senior director of Software Product Marketing at Xilinx. "Synplicity's early access software support for our Virtex-5 LX Platform and commitment to providing best-in-class design tools and methodologies will enable designers to rapidly deploy 65-nm devices to meet the system requirements of a wide range of high performance applications."

In a related announcement today, Synplicity and Xilinx also announced a joint engineering Task Force focused on providing new design flows to further maximize the quality of results and design productivity of ultra high-density designs with next-generation 65-nm FPGAs.

Pricing and Availability

The Synplify(R) 8.6 software is available now. Pricing for the Synplify software starts at $9,500 (U.S.). For more information visit Synplicity's Web site at http://www.synplicity.com.
